Umar bin Khattab saw a garment of thick silk brocade in the market and said, "Messenger of Allah, what if you bought this garment for the delegation?"He replied, "Silk is worn only by one who has no share," and the narrator said, I think he said, "in the Hereafter."Some time later, a garment of that kind was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he sent it to Umar. Umar disliked it and came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Prophet of Allah, you have sent this to me, yet you said about it what I heard, that silk is worn only by one who has no share."He answered, "I did not send it to you for you to wear it. I sent it to you so that you might gain its price."Salim said, It was because of this hadith that Ibn Umar used to dislike silk markings on a garment.
حدثنا عبد الأعلى بن عبد الأعلى عن يحيى يعني ابن أبي إسحاق عن سالم بن عبد الله
رأى عمر بن الخطاب في سوق ثوبا من إستبرق فقال يا رسول الله لو ابتعت هذا الثوب للوفد قال إنما يلبس الحرير أو قال هذا من لا خلاق له قال أحسبه قال في الآخرة قال فلما كان بعد ذاك أتي النبي ﷺ بثوب منها فبعث به إلى عمر فكرهه فأتى النبي ﷺ فقال يا نبي الله بعثت به إلي وقد قلت فيه ما سمعت إنما يلبس الحرير أو قال هذا من لا خلاق له قال إني لم أبعث به إليك لتلبسه ولكن بعثت به إليك لتصيب به ثمنا قال سالم فمن أجل هذا الحديث كان ابن عمر يكره العلم في الثوب
