I accompanied Ibn Umar from Medina to Mecca, and he would pray on his mount facing the direction of Mecca. I said to Salim, "If his face were toward Medina, how would he pray?"He said, "Ask him."So I asked him, and he replied, "Yes, in this direction and that direction," and he said, "because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did so."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن منصور
صحبت ابن عمر من المدينة إلى مكة فجعل يصلي على راحلته ناحية مكة فقلت لسالم لو كان وجهه إلى المدينة كيف كان يصلي قال سله فسألته فقال نعم وهاهنا وهاهنا وقال لأن رسول الله ﷺ صنعه
Its isnad is sahih, and it is a lengthier version of 4982, see also 5040. In the margin copy of K, there is an addition [wa dhaka] after his saying "here and here." His saying, "and he said, because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did it" appears in H as "he said, because," and we have corrected it based on K and M.
