I asked Ibn Umar about nabidh made in earthen jars.He said, "It is forbidden."I asked, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid it?"Ibn Umar replied, "That is what they claim."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا معمر
سألت ابن عمر عن نبيذ الجر فقال حرام فقلت أنهى عنه رسول الله ﷺ فقال ابن عمر يزعمون ذلك
Its isnad is sahih, and it is an abridgment of the previous hadith with the same meaning. Ibn Umar only said to him, "They claim that," as a rejection of his question about whether the Messenger of Allah had forbidden it, after he had already answered him that it was forbidden, because he would not affirm that it was forbidden unless the Messenger of Allah had indeed forbidden it.
