The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever prays over a funeral receives a qirat in reward."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "What is a qirat?"He replied, "Like Mount Uhud."
حدثنا يزيد أخبرنا إسماعيل عن سالم البراد
عن النبي ﷺ قال من صلى على جنازة فله قيراط فسئل رسول الله ﷺ ما القيراط قال مثل أحد
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Ismail is Ibn Abu Khalid. Salim Barrad Abu Abdullah was a trustworthy successor. Ibn Main affirmed his reliability, and Abu Hatim said, "He was among the best of the Muslims." Ata bin Saaib said, "Salim Barrad narrated to me, and he was more trustworthy in my eyes than myself." Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir, 2/2/109-110, and pointed to this hadith through the route of Muhammad bin Bishr, from Ismail, who said, "I heard Salim Barrad say, I heard Ibn Umar."Salim Barrad also heard this hadith from Abu Hurairah, as will come in his musnad, 9906. Ibn Umar's narration of it is among the mursal reports of the companions, for it was mentioned earlier at 4453 that he questioned Abu Hurairah when he narrated something with this meaning, until he had confirmed it with him and was satisfied with his narration, saying to him, "You, Abu Hurairah, were the most devoted among us to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the most knowledgeable of us in his hadith."Yet here he is narrating this very hadith himself as a mursal report, since he was certain of the truthfulness of the one who had told it to him. They were sincere and truthful men, each of them trusting the other and relying on him regarding matters of their religion. May Allah have mercy on them and be pleased with them.
