I mentioned this to Ibn Shihab, who said, "Salim narrated to me that Abdullah bin Umar used to do that, then Safiya bint Abu Ubayd told him that Ayesha had reported to her that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to grant women a concession to wear leather socks."
