We set out with Ibn Umar, and we prayed the obligatory prayer. He saw one of his sons performing voluntary prayers, so Ibn Umar said, "I prayed with the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman while traveling, and none of them prayed before it or after it."Ibn Umar added, "Had I wished to perform voluntary prayers, I would have completed the obligatory prayer in full."

خرجنا مع ابن عمر فصلينا الفريضة فرأى بعض ولده يتطوع فقال ابن عمر صليت مع النبي ﷺ وأبي بكر وعمر وعثمان في السفر فلم يصلوا قبلها ولا بعدها قال ابن عمر ولو تطوعت لأتممت
Its isnad is sahih. Isa bin Hafs bin Asim is trustworthy, deemed trustworthy by Ahmad, Ibn Main, Nasai, and others, and he has nothing in the six books except this hadith and another hadith from Nafi from Ibn Umar about the merit of Madinah. His father, Hafs bin Asim bin Umar bin Khattab, is the nephew of Abdullah bin Umar and the grandfather of Ubaydullah bin Umar bin Hafs. He is a trustworthy successor (tabii), deemed trustworthy by Nasai, and Hibatullah Tabari said, "His trustworthiness is agreed upon." Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir, 1:357.Abu Dawud narrated this hadith, 1:473, from Qanabi from Isa bin Hafs, at length. Munziri said, in 1177, that Bukhari, Muslim, Nasai, and Ibn Majah also related it, in both abridged and lengthy forms.
