The Prophet ﷺ noticed some phlegm on the qiblah wall of the mosque, so he stood up and scraped it off with his own hand. Then he turned to the people, visibly angry, and said, "Allah is before the face of each of you during his prayer, so none of you should spit in front of himself while praying."
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud related it in 1:178 through Hammad from Ayub, adding, "So he called for saffron and smeared it with it." Abu Dawud said, Ismail and Abdul-Warith related it from Ayub from Nafi, and Malik, Ubaydullah, and Musa bin Uqba related it from Nafi, similar to the hadith of Hammad, except that they did not mention the saffron.Munziri said, Bukhari and Muslim included it.
