The hands prostrate just as the face prostrates. So when one of you places his face down, let him place his hands down, and when he raises it, let him raise them.
حدثنا إسماعيل أخبرنا أيوب عن نافع
إن اليدين يسجدان كما يسجد الوجه فإذا وضع أحدكم وجهه فليضع يديه وإذا رفعه فليرفعهما
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Dawud (1:338) also narrated it from Ahmad bin Hanbal with this same chain. Nasai (1:165) and Hakim (1:226) both narrated it as well, through the route of Ismail bin Ulaya, with this same chain. Hakim said, "A sahih hadith according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, though they did not include it," and Dhahabi agreed with him.
