Abdullah bin Masud reported,

The women on the day of Uhud were behind the Muslims finishing off the wounded among the polytheists. If I were to swear an oath today, I would hope to be truthful, that not one of us wanted the worldly life, until Allah revealed, "Among you are some who desire this world and among you are some who desire the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from them to test you" [Aal Imran 3:152].When the companions of the Prophet ﷺ disobeyed and went against what they had been ordered to do, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was left alone with nine men, seven from the Ansar and two from Quraysh, with him as the tenth. When the enemy pressed in upon him, he said, "May Allah have mercy on a man who drives them back from us."A man from the Ansar stood up and fought for a while until he was killed. When they pressed in upon him again, he said, "May Allah have mercy on a man who drives them back from us." He kept saying this until all seven were killed.The Prophet ﷺ then said to his two remaining companions, "We have not done justice to our companions."Then Abu Sufyan came and shouted, "Exalted be Hubal!"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Say, 'Allah is higher and more majestic.'"So they said, "Allah is higher and more majestic."Abu Sufyan said, "We have al-Uzza, and you have no Uzza."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Say, 'Allah is our Protector, and the disbelievers have no protector.'"Then Abu Sufyan said, "A day for a day, like the day of Badr. A day goes for us and a day goes against us. A day we are saddened and a day we rejoice. Hanzala for Hanzala, so-and-so for so-and-so, so-and-so for so-and-so."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We are not equal. Our slain are alive and being provided for, while your slain are in the Fire being tormented."Abu Sufyan said, "There has been mutilation among the people, but it was done without the consent of our leaders. I did not order it, nor forbid it, nor love it, nor hate it. It neither grieved me nor pleased me."They then looked and found that Hamza's belly had been split open, and Hind had taken his liver and chewed it but could not swallow it.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Did she eat any of it?"They said, "No."He said, "Allah would never allow any part of Hamza to enter the Fire."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then placed Hamza down and prayed over him. A man from the Ansar was brought and placed beside him, and he prayed over him. Then the Ansari was lifted away and Hamza was left in place. Another was brought and placed beside Hamza, and he prayed over him. Then that one was lifted away and Hamza was left in place, until he had prayed seventy prayers over him that day.

عن ابن مسعود

أن النساء كن يوم أحد خلف المسلمين يجهزن على جرحى المشركين فلو حلفت يومئذ رجوت أن أبر إنه ليس أحد منا يريد الدنيا حتى أنزل الله عز وجل {منكم من يريد الدنيا ومنكم من يريد الآخرة ثم صرفكم عنهم ليبتليكم} فلما خالف أصحاب النبي ﷺ وعصوا ما أمروا به أفرد رسول الله ﷺ في تسعة سبعة من الأنصار ورجلين من قريش وهو عاشرهم فلما رهقوه قال رحم الله رجلا ردهم عنا قال فقام رجل من الأنصار فقاتل ساعة حتى قتل فلما رهقوه أيضا قال يرحم الله رجلا ردهم عنا فلم يزل يقول ذا حتى قتل السبعة فقال النبي ﷺ لصاحبيه ما أنصفنا أصحابنا فجاء أبو سفيان فقال اعل هبل فقال رسول الله ﷺ قولوا الله أعلى وأجل فقالوا الله أعلى وأجل فقال أبو سفيان لنا عزى ولا عزى لكم فقال رسول الله ﷺ قولوا الله مولانا والكافرون لا مولى لهم ثم قال أبو سفيان يوم بيوم بدر يوم لنا ويوم علينا ويوم نساء ويوم نسر حنظلة بحنظلة وفلان بفلان وفلان بفلان فقال رسول الله ﷺ لا سواء أما قتلانا فأحياء يرزقون وقتلاكم في النار يعذبون قال أبو سفيان قد كانت في القوم مثلة وإن كانت لعن غير ملإ منا ما أأمرت ولا نهيت ولا أحببت ولا كرهت ولا ساءني ولا سرني قال فنظروا فإذا حمزة قد بقر بطنه وأخذت هند كبده فلاكتها فلم تستطع أن تأكلها فقال رسول الله ﷺ أأكلت منه شيئا قالوا لا قال ما كان الله ليدخل شيئا من حمزة النار فوضع رسول الله ﷺ حمزة فصلى عليه وجيء برجل من الأنصار فوضع إلى جنبه فصلى عليه فرفع الأنصاري وترك حمزة ثم جيء بآخر فوضعه إلى جنب حمزة فصلى عليه ثم رفع وترك حمزة حتى صلى عليه يومئذ سبعين صلاة
