The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was visited by him on the night of the jinn, and he had with him a dry bone, a piece of dung, and a piece of charcoal. He said, "Do not clean yourself with any of these when you go to relieve yourself."

أن رسول الله ﷺ أتاه ليلة الجن ومعه عظم حائل وبعرة وفحمة فقال لا تستنجين بشيء من هذا إذا خرجت إلى الخلاء

Its isnad is sahih. Abdullah is Ibn Mubarak.Musa bin Ali bin Rabah was the governor of Egypt, having taken charge of it in the year 155. He is trustworthy, and was declared trustworthy by Ahmad, Ibn Main, Ajli, and others. Abu Hatim said, "He was a righteous man who mastered his hadith, neither adding nor omitting anything, sound in his hadith." He was among the trustworthy narrators of Egypt, and Bukhari included his biography in Kabir 289/1/4.His father, Ali bin Rabah bin Qusayr Lakhmi, was a trustworthy tabi, born in the year 10, and thus he lived at the same time as Ibn Masud, though I have found nothing indicating that he narrated from him except this hadith.This hadith was mentioned by Zaylai in Nasb Raya 1:140, at length, quoting from Dalail Nubuwwah by Bayhaqi, with his isnad reaching Musa bin Ali bin Rabah, from his father."Ali" is pronounced with damma on the ain, as a diminutive form, though it is also said with fatha on it as well.
