The Prophet ﷺ came upon him while he was praying between Abu Bakr, Umar, and Abdullah. He began reciting Surah an-Nisa and recited it fluently. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever wishes to recite the Quran as fresh as it was revealed, let him recite it according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd."Then he came forward to ask, and the Prophet ﷺ kept saying, "Ask and you shall be given. Ask and you shall be given. Ask and you shall be given."Among what he asked was, "O Allah, I ask You for faith that does not waver, bliss that does not run out, and the companionship of Your Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the highest level of the eternal Garden."Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, then went to Abdullah to give him the good news, but he found that Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, had reached him first. So Umar said, "If you have done so, you have always been one to race ahead in good deeds."
Its isnad is sahih. Part of its meaning has already appeared through disconnected chains, from Abu Ubayda from Ibn Masud, 3662, 3797, 4165. Its meaning has also already appeared through sound chains from the hadith of Umar bin Khattab, 175, 265.In Majma al-Zawaid 9:287-288, "Whoever wishes to recite the Quran fresh as it was revealed, let him recite it according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd." This is the hadith that has already appeared under number 35. He said, "Ahmad, Bazzar, and Tabarani narrated it, and it contains Asim bin Abu Najud, who despite his weakness is hasan al-hadith, and the rest of the men of Ahmad's chain are the men of the sahih, and the men of Tabarani's chain are the men of the sahih, except for Furat bin Mahbub, who is trustworthy." I do not know why he did not mention the hadith in full, perhaps it appears elsewhere in the book and I did not come across it.Fasahalaha, with fatha on the sin and a light, unpointed ha, Ibn Athir said, meaning he recited it all in one continuous, unbroken recitation, from as-sahl, meaning pouring forth in a steady stream. It is also transmitted with jim, and he said regarding the jim form, fasajalaha, meaning he recited it in one continuous recitation, from as-sajl, meaning pouring, one says, "sajaltu al-maa sajlan" when one pours water in a continuous stream.Regarding his saying "yasalu", in H it reads "saala", and we corrected it from K. The addition ["sal tutahu"] a third time, we added it from K. Regarding his saying "in fa'altu", in H it reads "inni fa'altu", which is a clear error, we corrected it from K, and see 3440, 3441.
