Abdullah bin Masud reported,

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that Quraysh had defied him, he said, "O Allah, help me against them with seven years of famine like the seven years of Yusuf."So drought seized them until it consumed everything, and they even ate hides and bones. One of the two narrators said, "Until they ate hides and carrion." Smoke-like vapor would rise up from a man due to severe hunger.Then Abu Sufyan came to him and said, "Muhammad, your people have perished. Pray to Allah to relieve them."So he prayed, then said, "O Allah, if they return to their ways, then return the punishment upon them."This phrase appears in the narration of Mansur. Then he recited this verse, "So watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke" [Dukhan 44:10].

أن رسول الله ﷺ لما رأى قريشا قد استعصوا عليه قال اللهم أعني عليهم بسبع كسبع يوسف قال فأخذتهم السنة حتى حصت كل شيء حتى أكلوا الجلود والعظام وقال أحدهما حتى أكلوا الجلود والميتة وجعل يخرج من الرجل كهيئة الدخان فأتاه أبو سفيان فقال أي محمد إن قومك قد هلكوا فادع الله عز وجل أن يكشف عنهم قال فدعا ثم قال اللهم إن يعودوا فعد هذا في حديث منصور ثم قرأ هذه الآية {فارتقب يوم تأتي السماء بدخان مبين}
