Alqama reported,

I was with Ibn Masud while he was visiting Uthman . Uthman said to him, "Is there anything left in you for women?"When women were mentioned, Ibn Masud said, "Come closer, Alqama." I was a young man at the time.Then Uthman said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to a group of young men from the Emigrants and said, 'Whoever among you can afford it should marry, for it lowers the gaze and guards the private parts. Whoever cannot, then fasting is a shield for him.'"
