We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a cave when "By those sent forth in succession" [Mursalat 77:1] was revealed to him. We began to learn it directly from him when a snake came out from the side of the cave.He said, "Kill it."We rushed at it, but it escaped before we could catch it.He then said, "It has been spared your harm just as you have been spared its harm."

كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في غار فأنزلت عليه والمرسلات عرفا فجعلنا نتلقاها منه فخرجت حية من جانب الغار فقال اقتلوها فتبادرناها فسبقتنا فقال إنها وقيت شركم كما وقيتم شرها
