Abdullah bin Masud reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was distributing the spoils of Hunayn at al-Jiranah when the people crowded around him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There was once a servant from among the servants of Allah whom Allah sent to his people. They rejected him and wounded him. Yet he kept wiping the blood from his forehead, saying, 'Lord, forgive my people, for they do not know.'"Abdullah said, "It is as though I can still see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping his forehead, imitating that man."

حدثنا بهز حدثنا حماد بن زيد حدثنا عاصم بن بهدلة عن أبي وائل

عن عبد الله بن مسعود قال

قسم رسول الله ﷺ غنائم حنين بالجعرانة قال فازدحموا عليه قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ إن عبدا من عباد الله بعثه الله عز وجل إلى قومه فكذبوه وشجوه فجعل يمسح الدم عن جبينه ويقول رب اغفر لقومي فإنهم لا يعلمون قال قال عبد الله فكأني أنظر إلى رسول الله ﷺ يمسح جبهته يحكي الرجل
