The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said one statement and I said another. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever dies associating anything with Allah enters the Fire," and I said, "Whoever dies not associating anything with Allah enters Paradise."Abu Bakr agreed with him in his narration from Asim, contrary to Abu Muawiya. Aswad related it to us.
Its isnad is sahih. It is a repetition of 4038.His statement at the end of the hadith, "Abu Bakr agreed with him, narrating from Asim, differing from Abu Muawiya," which Aswad narrated to us, clarifies the defect in the narration of Abu Muawiya from Amash that passed earlier at 4038.He means that Abu Muawiya narrated it from Amash, from Abu Waail, from Ibn Masud, making the statement "whoever dies associating a partner with Allah enters the Fire" the words of Ibn Masud, and making the statement "whoever dies without associating any partner with Allah enters Paradise" attributed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.Ibn Numayr, however, narrated it from Amash, from Abu Waail, and this is the narration found here, in the opposite manner, making the first statement the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the second the words of Ibn Masud. Aswad bin Amir narrated it from Abu Bakr, from Asim, from Abu Waail, in the same manner as Ibn Numayr's narration from Amash, and both of them differed from Abu Muawiya in his narration from Amash. This is what is correct, the narration of Ibn Numayr and those who agreed with him. Abu Muawiya was alone in his narration from Amash in making the first statement stop at Ibn Masud and the second attributed to the Prophet, and the narration of Abu Muawiya has already passed at 3625 and 4038.As for the correct narration, that the first statement is attributed to the Prophet and the second stops at Ibn Masud, it was narrated by Ibn Numayr from Amash, and this is the isnad found here. Waki agreed with him on this from Amash at 4221, and Muhammad bin Jafar also followed him on this from Shubah, from Amash, from Abu Waail, at 4222, 4406, and 4425.Aswad also followed them on this, from Abu Bakr, from Asim, from Abu Waail, as the Imam mentioned here, and as passed earlier at 3811 and 3865. Hushaym also followed them on this, from Sayyar Abu Hakam and Mughira, from Abu Waail, as passed earlier at 3552.These are all the isnads of this hadith from the hadith of Ibn Masud in the Musnad. Praise be to Allah for His enabling grace.
