Abdullah bin Masud reported,

We did not know what to say in the prayer. We used to say, "Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibreel, peace be upon Mikail." So the Prophet ﷺ taught us, saying, "Indeed, Allah Himself is Peace. So when you sit after two units of prayer, say, 'All greetings, prayers, and pure words belong to Allah. Peace be upon you, Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah.'"Abu Waail said in his narration from Abdullah from the Prophet ﷺ, "When you say it, it reaches every righteous servant in the heavens and on earth."Abu Ishaq said in the narration of Abdullah from the Prophet ﷺ, "When you say it, it reaches every angel brought near, every prophet sent as a messenger, or every righteous servant. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger."

حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا سفيان عن الأعمش ومنصور وحصين بن عبد الرحمن وأبو هاشم وحماد عن أبي وائل وعن أبي إسحاق عن أبي الأحوص والأسود

عن عبد الله قال

كنا لا ندري ما نقول في الصلاة نقول السلام على الله السلام على جبريل السلام على ميكائيل قال فعلمنا النبي ﷺ فقال إن الله هو السلام فإذا جلستم في ركعتين فقولوا التحيات لله والصلوات والطيبات السلام عليك أيها النبي ورحمة الله وبركاته السلام علينا وعلى عباد الله الصالحين قال أبو وائل في حديثه عن عبد الله عن النبي ﷺ إذا قلتها أصابت كل عبد صالح في السماء وفي الأرض وقال أبو إسحاق في حديث عبد الله عن النبي ﷺ إذا قلتها أصابت كل ملك مقرب أو نبي مرسل أو عبد صالح أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأشهد أن محمدا عبده ورسوله
