I heard a man reciting a verse differently from the way the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had taught it to me, so I took him by the hand and brought him to the Prophet ﷺ.The Prophet ﷺ said, "Both of you have recited well."He then became angry, and the anger could be seen on his face.Shuba said, "I am almost certain he said, 'Do not differ, for those before you differed and were destroyed.'"
حدثنا بهز حدثنا شعبة حدثني عبد الملك بن ميسرة قال سمعت النزال بن سبرة يحدث
سمعت رجلا يقرأ آية على غير ما أقرأني رسول الله ﷺ فأخذت بيده فأتيت به النبي ﷺ فقال كلاكما قد أحسن قال وغضب حتى عرف الغضب في وجهه قال شعبة أكبر ظني أنه قال لا تختلفوا فإن من قبلكم اختلفوا فيه فهلكوا
