Abdullah bin Masud reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The last person to enter Paradise will be a man who walks for a stretch, then stumbles, then is scorched by the Fire. When he finally passes beyond it, he turns toward it and says, 'Blessed is the One who has saved me from you. Allah has truly given me something He has not given to anyone among the first or the last.'Then a tree will be raised up before him, and he will say, 'My Lord, bring me close to this tree so I may shelter in its shade and drink from its water.'Allah will say to him, 'Son of Adam, perhaps if I grant you this, you will ask Me for something else.'He will say, 'No, my Lord,' and he will promise Him that he will not ask for anything else. His Lord will excuse him, for He sees that he is faced with what he cannot bear. So He will bring him close to it, and he will shelter in its shade and drink from its water.Then another tree will be raised up for him, more beautiful than the first, and he will say, 'My Lord, this one. Let me drink from its water and shelter in its shade. I will ask You for nothing else.'Allah will say, 'Son of Adam, did you not promise Me that you would not ask Me for anything else?'He will say, 'Perhaps if I bring you near to it, you will ask Me for something else.'So he will promise Him that he will not ask for anything else, and his Lord will excuse him, for He sees that he is faced with what he cannot bear. So He will bring him close to it, and he will shelter in its shade and drink from its water.Then a tree will be raised up for him at the gate of Paradise, more beautiful than the first two, and he will say, 'My Lord, bring me close to this tree so I may shelter in its shade and drink from its water. I will ask You for nothing else.'Allah will say, 'Son of Adam, did you not promise Me that you would not ask Me for anything else?'He will say, 'Yes, my Lord, but this one. I will ask You for nothing else.'Allah will say, 'Perhaps if I bring you near to it, you will ask Me for something else.'So he will promise Him that he will not ask for anything else, and his Lord will excuse him, for He sees that he is faced with what he cannot bear. So He will bring him close to it, and when He brings him near it he will hear the voices of the people of Paradise, and he will say, 'My Lord, admit me into it.'Allah will say, 'Son of Adam, what will put an end to your asking of Me? Would it please you if I gave you the world and the like of it along with it?'He will say, 'My Lord, are You mocking me, when You are the Lord of the worlds?'"Then Ibn Masud laughed and said, "Will you not ask me what made me laugh?"They said, "What makes you laugh?"He said, "This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed. He said, 'Will you not ask me what made me laugh?'They said, 'What makes you laugh, Messenger of Allah?'He said, 'At the laughter of my Lord when the man said, Are You mocking me, when You are the Lord of the worlds? Allah will say, I am not mocking you, but I am able to do whatever I will.'"

حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد أخبرنا ثابت عن أنس بن مالك

عن ابن مسعود

أن رسول الله ﷺ قال آخر من يدخل الجنة رجل فهو يمشي مرة ويكبو مرة وتسقفه النار مرة فإذا جاوزها التفت إليها فقال تبارك الذي أنجاني منك لقد أعطاني الله شيئا ما أعطاه أحدا من الأولين والآخرين فترفع له شجرة فيقول أي رب أدنني من هذه الشجرة فأستظل بظلها فأشرب من مائها فيقول له الله يا ابن آدم فلعلي إذا أعطيتكها سألتني غيرها فيقول لا يا رب ويعاهده أن لا يسأله غيرها قال وربه عز وجل يعذره لأنه يرى ما لا صبر له عليه فيدنيه منها فيستظل بظلها ويشرب من مائها ثم ترفع له شجرة هي أحسن من الأولى فيقول أي رب هذه فلأشرب من مائها وأستظل بظلها لا أسألك غيرها فيقول ابن آدم ألم تعاهدني أن لا تسألني غيرها فيقول لعلي إن أدنيتك منها تسألني غيرها فيعاهده أن لا يسأله غيرها وربه عز وجل يعذره لأنه يرى ما لا صبر له عليه فيدنيه منها فيستظل بظلها ويشرب من مائها ثم ترفع له شجرة عند باب الجنة هي أحسن من الأوليين فيقول أي رب أدنني من هذه الشجرة فأستظل بظلها وأشرب من مائها لا أسألك غيرها فيقول يا ابن آدم ألم تعاهدني أن لا تسألني غيرها قال بلى أي رب هذه لا أسألك غيرها فيقول لعلي إن أدنيتك منها تسألني غيرها فيعاهده أن لا يسأله غيرها وربه يعذره لأنه يرى ما لا صبر له عليه فيدنيه منها فإذا أدناه منها سمع أصوات أهل الجنة فيقول أي رب أدخلنيها فيقول يا ابن آدم ما يصريني منك أيرضيك أن أعطيك الدنيا ومثلها معها فيقول أي رب أتستهزئ بي وأنت رب العالمين فضحك ابن مسعود فقال ألا تسألوني مما أضحك فقالوا مم تضحك فقال هكذا ضحك رسول الله ﷺ فقال ألا تسألوني مم أضحك فقالوا مم تضحك يا رسول الله قال من ضحك ربي حين قال أتستهزئ مني وأنت رب العالمين فيقول إني لا أستهزئ منك ولكني على ما أشاء قدير
