A man said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "How can I know when I have done well and when I have done wrong?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "When you hear your neighbors saying you have done well, then you have done well, and when you hear them saying you have done wrong, then you have done wrong."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن منصور عن أبي وائل
قال رجل لرسول الله ﷺ كيف لي أن أعلم إذا أحسنت وإذا أسأت فقال النبي ﷺ إذا سمعت جيرانك يقولون قد أحسنت فقد أحسنت وإذا سمعتهم يقولون قد أسأت فقد أسأت
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Ibn Majah narrated it (2:288) through Abdul-Razzaq, from Mamar. Its commentator Sindi quoted from the Zawaid of Hafiz Busiri on Sunan Ibn Majah that he said, "This hadith of Abdullah bin Masud is sahih, its narrators are trustworthy."Ibn Hibban narrated it in his Sahih through Abdul-Razzaq, with the same chain. It is also found in Majma al-Zawaid by Haythami (10:271), where he said, "Tabarani narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the sahih collections." So he included it, though it is not actually among the additions, and he then failed to attribute it to the Musnad.
