The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every prophet has close allies, and my closest ally among them is my father and the friend of my Lord, Ibrahim." Then he recited, "Indeed, the most worthy of Ibrahim..." [Aal Imran 3:68] to the end of the verse.
حدثنا وكيع حدثنا سفيان عن أبيه عن أبي الضحى
قال رسول الله ﷺ إن لكل نبي ولاة وإن وليي منهم أبي وخليل ربي إبراهيم قال ثم قرأ {إن أولى الناس بإبراهيم} إلى آخر الآية
Its chain is daif because it is disconnected, for Abu Duha, Muslim bin Sabih, never met Ibn Masud.However, Tirmidhi (80-81) narrated it through Abu Ahmad, from Thawri, from his father, from Abu Duha, from Masruq, from Ibn Masud, which makes it connected. Then he narrated it through Abu Naeem and through Waki, both of them from Thawri as it appears here, with Masruq omitted from the chain, and Tirmidhi favored the version narrated as disconnected.Ibn Kathir quoted it in his tafsir (2:162-163) from Sunan Saeed bin Mansur, "Abu Ahwas told us, from Saeed bin Masruq, who is the father of Sufyan Thawri, from Abu Duha, from Masruq, from Ibn Masud." This is another connected narration that supports the narration of Abu Ahmad which Tirmidhi related, and the connection through the mention of Masruq represents an addition from a trustworthy narrator, indeed two trustworthy narrators, so it is acceptable. Thus the hadith itself is sahih.It will come again at 4088.
