Abdullah bin Masud reported,

When we were returning from the expedition of Hudaybiya, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Who will stand guard for us tonight?"Abdullah said, "I volunteered, saying, 'I will.' He repeated the question several times, and each time I said, 'I will, Messenger of Allah.'"He said, "Then it is you."Abdullah continued, "So I kept watch over them, but when the first light of dawn appeared, the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came true, for he had said, 'You will fall asleep.' And indeed I fell asleep. Nothing woke us but the heat of the sun on our backs. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose and did as he normally did, performing wudu and praying the two units of Fajr, then he led us in the dawn prayer. When he finished, he said, 'If Allah had wanted you not to sleep, you would not have slept. But He wanted this to be an example for those who come after you. This is what one does who sleeps or forgets.'"Abdullah went on, "Then the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the camels of the people scattered, and the men went out searching for them. They came back with their own camels, but not with the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."Abdullah said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, 'Go over that way.' So I went where he told me, and I found her halter twisted around a tree in a way that no hand but a human hand could have tied."He said, "I brought her to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth as a prophet, I found her halter twisted around a tree in a way that no hand but a human hand could have tied.'"He said, "And it was then that Surah Fath was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, 'Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory' [Fath 48:1]."

حدثنا يزيد أنبأنا المسعودي عن جامع بن شداد عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي علقمة الثقفي

عن عبد الله بن مسعود قال

لما انصرفنا من غزوة الحديبية قال رسول الله ﷺ من يحرسنا الليلة قال عبد الله فقلت أنا حتى عاد مرارا قلت أنا يا رسول الله قال فأنت إذا قال فحرستهم حتى إذا كان وجه الصبح أدركني قول رسول الله ﷺ إنك تنام فنمت فما أيقظنا إلا حر الشمس في ظهورنا فقام رسول الله ﷺ وصنع كما كان يصنع من الوضوء وركعتي الفجر ثم صلى بنا الصبح فلما انصرف قال إن الله عز وجل لو أراد أن لا تناموا لم تناموا ولكن أراد أن تكونوا لمن بعدكم فهكذا لمن نام أو نسي قال ثم إن ناقة رسول الله ﷺ وإبل القوم تفرقت فخرج الناس في طلبها فجاءوا بإبلهم إلا ناقة رسول الله ﷺ فقال عبد الله قال لي رسول الله ﷺ خذ ههنا فأخذت حيث قال لي فوجدت زمامها قد التوى على شجرة ما كانت لتحلها إلا يد قال فجئت بها النبي ﷺ فقلت يا رسول الله والذي بعثك بالحق نبيا لقد وجدت زمامها ملتويا على شجرة ما كانت لتحلها إلا يد قال ونزلت على رسول الله ﷺ سورة الفتح {إنا فتحنا لك فتحا مبينا}
