Some people came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "A companion of ours is sick. Shall we cauterize him?"He remained silent. They asked again, "Shall we cauterize him?"He remained silent. Then he said, "Cauterize him and sear him with hot stones."

Its chain of transmission is sahih. Hakim related it, 4:214, through Thawri from Abu Ishaq, and said, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, though they did not include it," and Dhahabi concurred with him.In Majma al-Zawaid, 5:99, something similar is related from Ibn Masud, where it says, "Tabarani related it, and its narrators are trustworthy, except that Abu Ubayda did not hear from his father," so this is another chain, and a disconnected one, and he did not mention it from the Musnad through the sahih chain, even though it will come again repeatedly through the route of Abu Ishaq from Abu Ahwas from Abdullah, 3852, 4021, 4054. So I do not know why he set all this aside and brought instead a disconnected chain from Tabarani, when the hadith is not even in the six books.Arfadhuhu, meaning, they spread it with radf, which are heated stones.
