A man came to Abu Musa and Sulayman bin Rabia and asked them about the inheritance of a daughter, a son's daughter, and a paternal sister. They said, "The daughter receives half and the sister receives half. Go to Ibn Masud, for he will agree with us."The man went to Ibn Masud, asked him, and informed him of what they had said.Ibn Masud replied, "I would have gone astray then and would not be among the rightly guided. I will rule as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled. The daughter receives half, the son's daughter receives a sixth to complete the two-thirds, and what remains goes to the sister."

جاء رجل إلى أبي موسى وسليمان بن ربيعة فسألهما عن ابنة وابنة ابن وأخت لأب فقالا للبنت النصف وللأخت النصف وأت ابن مسعود فإنه سيتابعنا قال فأتى ابن مسعود فسأله وأخبره بما قالا فقال ابن مسعود لقد ضللت إذا وما أنا من المهتدين سأقضي بما قضى رسول الله ﷺ للابنة النصف ولابنة الابن السدس تكملة الثلثين وما بقي فللأخت
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Qays is Awdi, whose name is Abdul-Rahman bin Tharwan. He is trustworthy. Ibn Main deemed him trustworthy, and Ajli said, "Trustworthy and reliable." Others besides them also deemed him trustworthy, though some criticized his memory.Hazeel, with a zay and in diminutive form, bin Shurahbil Awdi, was a trustworthy tabii and one of the companions of Abdullah.Bukhari narrated this hadith in 12, 13-14, through the route of Shuba from Abu Qays. Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Nasai, Ibn Majah, Darimi, and Tahawi also narrated it, as mentioned in Fath al-Bari.Salman bin Rabia is Bahili, known as Salman al-Khayl. He is trustworthy, one of the senior tabiin, and it is even said that he had companionship with the Prophet. A hadith of his, narrated from Umar, has already preceded at 127.In H it appears as Sulayman, which is an error. We corrected it based on K and the other references.
