The Prophet ﷺ said, "The extremists have perished," repeating it three times. Yahya mentioned this within a longer hadith.

Its isnad is sahih. Talq bin Habib Anazi was a trustworthy successor, and he was among the most devoted worshippers of his time. The hadith was narrated by Muslim, 2:304, through Hafs bin Ghiyath and Yahya bin Saeed, from Ibn Jurayj. It was also narrated by Abu Dawud, as noted in Jami Sagheer, 9594, and Dhakhair, 4741.Al-Mutanattioon, those who go to excess. Ibn Athir said, they are those who go to extremes and exaggerate in speech, speaking from the very back of their throats. The word is derived from "nat", with the noon vowelled with a kasrah and the taa with a fathah, which refers to the upper palate of the mouth. It was then used for any excess, whether in word or deed.
