A red windstorm stirred up in Kufa, and a man came whose only refrain was, "Abdullah bin Masud, the Hour has come!"Abdullah bin Masud had been reclining, but he sat up and said, "The Hour will not arrive until inheritance is no longer divided and no one rejoices over war booty."Then he said that an enemy would gather against the people of Islam, and the people of Islam would gather against them. He mentioned the hadith and said, "A cry will reach them that the Dajjal has appeared among their offspring left behind. So they will throw down whatever is in their hands and march back, sending ten horsemen ahead as a scouting party."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I know their names, the names of their fathers, and the colors of their horses. They are the best horsemen on the face of the earth that day," or he said, "they are among the best horsemen on the face of the earth that day."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Qatada Adawi, his name was Tamim bin Nudhayr, with the nun vowelled with a damma, and he is also said to be Ibn Zubayr, and other statements are given regarding his name. He was a trustworthy successor (tabii), though there is disagreement as to whether he was a companion, and the more correct view is that he was a successor. Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 1/2/151, and Ibn Hajar in al-Isabah 1:196.Yusayr bin Jabir, his trustworthiness was already established at 266 under the name Usayr, both being diminutive forms. We add here that the hamza and the ya alternate in his name, so he is called both Usayr, which is the more correct form, and Yusayr. This became confused for the author of al-Tahdhib with the biography of Yusayr bin Amr, so he treated them as two differing statements about a single person, then said, "And it is said that they are two different people!" But Bukhari distinguished between them in al-Kabir, giving the biography of Usayr bin Jabir Abdi at 1/2/66, mentioning that he narrated from Ibn Masud and Umar, and giving the biography of Yusayr bin Amr Shaybani at 24/2/422, mentioning that Shuba called him Usayr bin Amr Shaybani, then narrating from this Yusayr that he said, "The Prophet ﷺ died when I was ten years old," and narrating from Awwam that he said, "Yusayr bin Amr was born during the migration of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and died in the year 85." All of this decisively establishes that they are two different people, and for this reason Bukhari related the other statement while weakening it, saying, "Some have said he is Usayr bin Jabir."The hadith here is abridged, and it will come in full with this same chain at 4146. Muslim also related it, 2:365-366 (8:177-178, Astana edition), through the route of Ismail, who is Ibn Ulaya, and through the route of Hammad bin Zayd, both from Ayub, and through the route of Sulayman bin Mughira from Humayd bin Hilal.Hujayra, with the ha vowelled with a kasra, the jim doubled and vowelled with a kasra, and ending in an alif maqsura, means habit, custom, and settled practice. It is said, "This matter became his hujayra," meaning his habit.
