Abdullah recited Surah Yusuf in Homs, and a man said, "It was not revealed like that."Abdullah drew close to him and detected the smell of wine on him, so he said, "You deny the truth and drink filth? I will not let you go until I administer the prescribed lashes upon you."He then carried out the prescribed punishment on him and said, "By Allah, this is exactly how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me to recite it."
حدثنا أبو معاوية حدثنا الأعمش عن إبراهيم عن علقمة
أنه قرأ سورة يوسف بحمص فقال رجل ما هكذا أنزلت فدنا منه عبد الله فوجد منه ريح الخمر فقال أتكذب بالحق وتشرب الرجس لا أدعك حتى أجلدك حدا قال فضربه الحد وقال والله لهكذا أقرأنيها رسول الله ﷺ
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari narrated it, 9:44–45, from the route of Sufyan from Amash, and Muslim also narrated it, as noted in Dhakhair Mawarith 4910.
