Its chain of transmission is daif, as will become clear later. Yahya Jabir is Yahya bin Abdullah bin Harith Mujabbir, and he is trustworthy, as was mentioned at 2142. Abu Majid Hanafi is unknown. Ibn Madini said, "We do not know of anyone who narrated from him other than Yahya Jabir." Bukhari said in Kuna 687, "Humaydi said, Ibn Uyayna said, I said to Yahya, 'Who is Abu Majid?' He said, 'A bird that flew in upon us and told us a story,' and he is munkar al-hadith." He said something similar in Duafa 38 and Sagheer 112, and likewise Nasai said in Duafa 33, "Munkar al-hadith."The hadith was narrated by Tirmidhi 2:137-138 at length, and he said, "This is a hadith we do not know from the hadith of Ibn Masud except through this route. I heard Muhammad bin Ismail" (meaning Bukhari) "declare this hadith of Abu Majid daif." Muhammad (that is, Bukhari) said, "Humaydi said, Ibn Uyayna said, It was said to Yahya, 'Who is this Abu Majid?' He said, 'A bird that flew and told us a story!'" Then Tirmidhi said, "Abu Majid is an unknown man, and he has two hadiths from Ibn Masud."As for Yahya, the imam of Bani Taym Allah, he is trustworthy, known by the kunya Abu Harith, and is also called Yahya Jabir, as well as Yahya Mujabbir. He is from Kufa, and Shubah, Sufyan Thawri, Abu Ahwas, and Sufyan bin Uyayna all narrated from him.As for his statement at the beginning of the chain, "Sufyan narrated to us, saying, and none of them precedes it," this is how it appears in both original manuscripts, and above it in manuscript K is written the word "thus" (indicating uncertainty). What appears clear to me is that the correct reading is "none of us should precede it," meaning the funeral bier, as though Sufyan held this view and then narrated the hadith as evidence for it. This is supported by the longer version of the narration that will come later at 3734.
