I was with Masruq in a house that contained a statue of Mary. Masruq said, "This is a statue of Khosrau."I said, "No, it is a statue of Mary."Masruq replied, "I heard Abdullah bin Masud say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The people who will receive the harshest punishment on the Day of Resurrection are the image-makers.'"

كنت مع مسروق في بيت فيه تمثال مريم فقال مسروق هذا تمثال كسرى فقلت لا ولكن تمثال مريم فقال مسروق أما إني سمعت عبد الله بن مسعود يقول قال رسول الله ﷺ إن أشد الناس عذابا يوم القيامة المصورون
Its isnad is sahih. Masruq is the son of Ajda bin Malik, a reliable and well-known tabii, as previously mentioned in 211. Umar said to him, "Ajda is a devil, but you are Masruq bin Abdul-Rahman." Abu Dawud said, Amr bin Madikarib was his maternal uncle, and his father was the finest horseman among the horsemen of Yemen. The hadith was narrated by Bukhari and Muslim, as noted in Targheeb 4:55.
