Abdullah recited the talbiyah as he proceeded from Jam. Someone remarked, "Is this a Bedouin?"Abdullah replied, "Have the people forgotten, or have they gone astray? I heard the one upon whom Surah al-Baqarah was revealed saying in this very place, 'Labbayka Allahumma labbayk.'"
Its isnad is sahih. Kathir bin Mudrik Ashjai, Abu Mudrik, is thiqah. Ajli graded him thiqah, Ibn Hibban listed him among the thiqat, and Bukhari gave him a biographical entry in al-Kabir, 4/1/212. The hadith was narrated by Muslim, 1:363, through the route of Hushaym, from him. It will come again at 3976, and see also 3961.
