Someone said to Ibn Abbas, "Why is it that the family of Muawiya serves water and honey, the family of so-and-so serves milk, while you serve nabidh? Is it out of stinginess on your part, or because of need?"Ibn Abbas replied, "It is neither stinginess nor need on our part. Rather, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us with Usama bin Zayd riding behind him and asked for a drink. We gave him some of this, meaning the nabidh of the watering place, and he drank from it and said, 'You have done well. Continue to do so.'"

لابن عباس ما شأن آل معاوية يسقون الماء والعسل وآل فلان يسقون اللبن وأنتم تسقون النبيذ أمن بخل بكم أو حاجة فقال ابن عباس ما بنا بخل ولا حاجة ولكن رسول الله ﷺ جاءنا ورديفه أسامة بن زيد فاستسقى فسقيناه من هذا يعني نبيذ السقاية فشرب منه وقال أحسنتم هكذا فاصنعوا
