When the verse on debts was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The first to deny was Adam, peace be upon him." He said it three times."When Allah created Adam, peace be upon him, He wiped his back and brought forth from him all of his descendants who would come into being until the Day of Resurrection. He began to display them before him, and Adam saw among them a radiant man.He asked, 'My Lord, who is this son of mine?'Allah replied, 'This is your son Dawud.'Adam asked, 'My Lord, how long is his lifespan?'Allah replied, 'Sixty years.'Adam said, 'My Lord, increase his lifespan.'Allah replied, 'No, unless you add to it from your own.'Adam's lifespan was a thousand years, so he gifted Dawud forty years from his own life. Allah wrote a document concerning this and made the angels witnesses to it.When Adam's appointed time came, the angels came to take his soul. He said, 'My time has not yet come. There remain forty years of my lifespan.'They said, 'You gave them as a gift to your son Dawud.'He said, 'I did not do so, nor did I gift him anything.'Then Allah
produced the document against him and had the angels testify against him."
