Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

The Prophet ﷺ said, "My Lord came to me last night in the most beautiful form," and I think he meant in a dream, "and He said, 'Muhammad, do you know what the highest assembly of angels is disputing about?'I said, 'No.'"The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then He placed His hand between my shoulders until I felt its coolness between my breasts," or he said, "upon my chest, and I came to know what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. Then He said, 'Muhammad, do you know what the highest assembly is disputing about?'I said, 'Yes. They are disputing about the expiations and the degrees.'He asked, 'And what are the expiations and the degrees?'I said, 'Remaining in the mosques, walking on foot to the congregational prayers, and completing the ablution thoroughly in unpleasant conditions. Whoever does that lives in goodness, dies in goodness, and becomes free of his sins as on the day his mother bore him. And say, Muhammad, when you pray, O Allah, I ask You for the doing of good deeds, the abandoning of evils, the love of the poor, and that when You intend a trial for Your servants, You take me to You without being put to trial.'He said, 'And the degrees are providing food, spreading the greeting of peace, and praying at night while people are asleep.'"

عن ابن عباس

أن النبي ﷺ قال أتاني ربي عز وجل الليلة في أحسن صورة أحسبه يعني في النوم فقال يا محمد هل تدري فيم يختصم الملأ الأعلى قال قلت لا قال النبي ﷺ فوضع يده بين كتفي حتى وجدت بردها بين ثديي أو قال نحري فعلمت ما في السموات وما في الأرض ثم قال يا محمد هل تدري فيم يختصم الملأ الأعلى قال قلت نعم يختصمون في الكفارات والدرجات قال وما الكفارات والدرجات قال المكث في المساجد والمشي على الأقدام إلى الجماعات وإبلاغ الوضوء في المكاره ومن فعل ذلك عاش بخير ومات بخير وكان من خطيئته كيوم ولدته أمه وقل يا محمد إذا صليت اللهم إني أسألك الخيرات وترك المنكرات وحب المساكين وإذا أردت بعبادك فتنة أن تقبضني إليك غير مفتون قال والدرجات بذل الطعام وإفشاء السلام والصلاة بالليل والناس نيام
