Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

Ibn Abbas said, "I was with Umar when Saad and Ibn Umar asked him about wiping over leather socks, and Umar ruled in favor of Saad."Ibn Abbas continued, "I said, 'Saad, we already know that the Prophet ﷺ wiped over his leather socks, but was that before Surah al-Maidah was revealed or after it?'"He said, Rawh said, "or after it."Ibn Abbas said, "No one can tell you that the Prophet ﷺ wiped over them after Surah al-Maidah was revealed."So Umar fell silent.

قال أنا عند عمر رضي الله عنه حين سأله سعد وابن عمر عن المسح على الخفين فقضى عمر لسعد فقال ابن عباس فقلت يا سعد قد علمنا أن النبي ﷺ مسح على خفيه ولكن أقبل المائدة أم بعدها قال فقال روح أو بعدها قال لا يخبرك أحد أن النبي ﷺ مسح عليهما بعدما أنزلت المائدة فسكت عمر رضي الله عنه
