Iyad reported,

I was present at the Battle of Yarmuk, and we had five commanders over us, Abu Ubayda bin Jarra, Yazid bin Abu Sufyan, Ibn Hasanah, Khalid bin Walid, and Iyad. This Iyad is not the one who narrated to Simak.He said, Umar had said, "If there is fighting, then Abu Ubayda is your commander."He said, We wrote to him saying that death was bearing down upon us, and we asked him for reinforcements. He wrote back to us, "Your letter has reached me asking me for reinforcements, but I will direct you to one whose support is mightier and whose army is more readily present, Allah . So seek victory from Him, for Muhammad ﷺ was granted victory on the day of Badr with fewer than your number. When this letter of mine reaches you, fight them and do not write back to me."He said, So we fought them and routed them and pursued and killed them for four parasangs. We seized wealth, and the commanders consulted together. Iyad advised us that we should give ten as the share for each head.He said, Abu Ubayda said, "Who will race me?"A young man said, "I will, if you will not be angry."He said, So he outran him. I saw the two braids of Abu Ubayda bouncing as he was behind him on an Arabian horse.

عياضا الأشعري قال

شهدت اليرموك وعلينا خمسة أمراء أبو عبيدة بن الجراح ويزيد بن أبي سفيان وابن حسنة وخالد بن الوليد وعياض وليس عياض هذا بالذي حدث سماكا قال وقال عمر رضي الله عنه إذا كان قتال فعليكم أبو عبيدة قال فكتبنا إليه إنه قد جاش إلينا الموت واستمددناه فكتب إلينا إنه قد جاءني كتابكم تستمدوني وإني أدلكم على من هو أعز نصرا وأحضر جندا الله عز وجل فاستنصروه فإن محمدا ﷺ قد نصر يوم بدر في أقل من عدتكم فإذا أتاكم كتابي هذا فقاتلوهم ولا تراجعوني قال فقاتلناهم فهزمناهم وقتلناهم أربع فراسخ قال وأصبنا أموالا فتشاوروا فأشار علينا عياض أن نعطي عن كل رأس عشرة قال وقال أبو عبيدة من يراهني فقال شاب أنا إن لم تغضب قال فسبقه فرأيت عقيصتي أبي عبيدة تنقزان وهو خلفه على فرس عربي
