I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution after breaking his wudu, wipe over his leather socks, and then pray.
Its chain is daif, due to the weakness of Asim bin Ubaydullah. It is a repetition of 128, and there it is narrated from Asim bin Ubaydullah, from his father, from his grandfather, without mentioning Yazid's doubt. It will come again at 387 from Asim, from Salim, from Ibn Umar, and this is confusion arising from the weakness of Asim. See also 216, 307.As for Ali bin Asim Wasiti, Ahmad's teacher, much has been said against him, but the view I consider correct is that he is trustworthy. In Tahdib it is mentioned that Ajli said of him, "He was trustworthy, well known for hadith, and people wronged him regarding certain hadiths they asked him to abandon, but he refused to do so."It is also mentioned in Tahdib that Ibn Abu Khaythama said, "It was said to Ibn Main, 'Ahmad says that Ali bin Asim is not a liar.'" He said, "No, by Allah, Ali was never considered trustworthy by him, nor did he narrate anything from him. How then has he become trustworthy in his view today?" This is an exaggeration on the part of Ibn Main, and a denial of what is established from Ahmad, for Ahmad's narrations from Ali bin Asim are numerous in the Musnad. Also in Tahdib, Mahmud bin Ghaylan said, "Ahmad, Ibn Main, and Abu Khaythama all dropped him." Then he said, "Abdullah bin Ahmad told me that his father instructed him to go around to everyone he had forbidden from writing down hadith from Ali bin Asim, and to tell them to narrate from him." This makes it clear that Ahmad retracted his earlier statement about him, and it became evident that he was trustworthy, so he ordered that hadith be narrated from him.
