A delegation from Abdul-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, among them al-Ashajj, the brother of Banu Asar. They said, "Prophet of Allah, we are a tribe from Rabia, and between us and you lie the disbelievers of Mudar, so we cannot reach you except during the sacred month. Instruct us with something which, if we act upon it, will admit us into Paradise, and which we can convey to those we left behind."So he commanded them with four things and forbade them from four. He commanded them to worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, to perform the prayer, to fast Ramadan, to make pilgrimage to the House, and to give one-fifth of the spoils of war. And he forbade them from four, drinking from the hantam, the dubba, the naqir, and the muzaffat.They asked, "Then from what shall we drink, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Use leather waterskins whose mouths are tied shut."
حدثنا بهز حدثنا أبان بن يزيد العطار حدثنا قتادة عن سعيد بن المسيب وعن عكرمة
أن وفد عبد القيس أتوا رسول الله ﷺ فيهم الأشج أخو بني عصر فقالوا يا نبي الله إنا حي من ربيعة وإن بيننا وبينك كفار مضر وإنا لا نصل إليك إلا في الشهر الحرام فمرنا بأمر إذا عملنا به دخلنا الجنة وندعو به من وراءنا فأمرهم بأربع ونهاهم عن أربع أمرهم أن يعبدوا الله ولا يشركوا به شيئا وأن يصوموا رمضان وأن يحجوا البيت وأن يعطوا الخمس من المغانم ونهاهم عن أربع عن الشرب في الحنتم والدباء والنقير والمزفت فقالوا ففيم نشرب يا رسول الله قال عليكم بأسقية الأدم التي يلاث على أفواهها
