Ibn Abu Mulayka reported,

Zakwan, the freed slave of Ayesha, reported that he sought permission for Ibn Abbas to enter upon Ayesha while she was dying. Her nephew Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman was with her.Zakwan said, "This is Ibn Abbas seeking permission to see you, and he is among the best of your sons."She replied, "Spare me Ibn Abbas and his praise."Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman said to her, "He is a reciter of the Book of Allah and a scholar of the religion of Allah. Give him permission so he may greet you and bid you farewell."She said, "Let him in, if you wish."So permission was granted, and Ibn Abbas entered, greeted her, and sat down.He said, "Rejoice, Mother of the Believers. By Allah, there is nothing between you and the lifting of every harm and weariness," or he said, "and sickness, and meeting your loved ones, Muhammad and his party," or he said, "his companions, except for your soul departing from your body."She said, "And what else?"Ibn Abbas said, "You were the most beloved of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ wives to him, and he loved only what was good. Allah revealed your innocence from above the seven heavens, so there is not a mosque on earth in which it is not recited throughout the night and throughout the day. Your necklace fell at al-Abwa, and the Prophet ﷺ and the people with him were detained at the camp searching for it," or he said, "looking for it, until morning came upon the people without water. Then Allah revealed 'So perform tayammum with clean earth' [Nisa 4:43], and that was a concession granted to all people because of you. By Allah, you are truly blessed."She said, "Spare me this, Ibn Abbas. By Allah, I wish I had been forgotten and out of sight."

عن ابن أبي مليكة

عن ذكوان مولى عائشة أنه استأذن لابن عباس على عائشة وهي تموت وعندها ابن أخيها عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن فقال هذا ابن عباس يستأذن عليك وهو من خير بنيك فقالت دعني من ابن عباس ومن تزكيته فقال لها عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن إنه قارئ لكتاب الله فقيه في دين الله فأذني له فليسلم عليك وليودعك قالت فأذن له إن شئت قال فأذن له فدخل ابن عباس ثم سلم وجلس وقال أبشري يا أم المؤمنين فوالله ما بينك وبين أن يذهب عنك كل أذى ونصب أو قال وصب وتلقي الأحبة محمدا وحزبه أو قال أصحابه إلا أن تفارق روحك جسدك فقالت وأيضا فقال ابن عباس كنت أحب أزواج رسول الله ﷺ إليه ولم يكن يحب إلا طيبا وأنزل الله عز وجل براءتك من فوق سبع سموات فليس في الأرض مسجد إلا وهو يتلى فيه آناء الليل وآناء النهار وسقطت قلادتك بالأبواء فاحتبس النبي ﷺ في المنزل والناس معه في ابتغائها أو قال في طلبها حتى أصبح القوم على غير ماء فأنزل الله عز وجل {فتيمموا صعيدا طيبا} الآية فكان في ذلك رخصة للناس عامة في سببك فوالله إنك لمباركة فقالت دعني يا ابن عباس من هذا فوالله لوددت أني كنت نسيا منسيا
