Abu Aswad reported,

I came to Medina at a time when an illness had struck the city. Abdul-Samad said, "People were dying in great numbers."So I sat with Umar bin Khattab , and a funeral procession passed by. The deceased was praised with good words, and Umar said, "It is guaranteed."Then another passed by, and the deceased was praised with good words, and he said, "It is guaranteed."Then a third passed by, and the deceased was spoken of with ill words, and Umar said, "It is guaranteed."Abu Aswad said, "I asked him, 'Commander of the Believers, what is guaranteed?'"He replied, "I said as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Any Muslim for whom four people testify with good will be admitted by Allah into Paradise.'"We asked, "And three?"He said, "And three."We asked, "And two?"He said, "And two."And we did not ask him about one.

حدثنا عبد الصمد وعفان قالا حدثنا داود بن أبي الفرات حدثنا عبد الله بن بريدة قال عفان عن ابن بريدة

عن أبي الأسود الديلي قال

أتيت المدينة وقد وقع بها مرض قال عبد الصمد فهم يموتون موتا ذريعا فجلست إلى عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه فمرت به جنازة فأثني على صاحبها خير فقال عمر رضي الله عنه وجبت ثم مر بأخرى فأثني على صاحبها خير فقال وجبت ثم مر بأخرى فأثني عليها شر فقال عمر رضي الله عنه وجبت فقال أبو الأسود فقلت له يا أمير المؤمنين ما وجبت فقال قلت كما قال رسول الله ﷺ أيما مسلم شهد له أربعة بخير إلا أدخله الله الجنة قال قلنا وثلاثة قال وثلاثة قلنا واثنان قال واثنان قال ولم نسأله عن الواحد
