Abdullah bin Umar reported,

One of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque on Friday while Umar bin Khattab was standing and delivering the sermon.Umar asked, "What hour is this?"The man replied, "Commander of the Believers, I had just returned from the market when I heard the call to prayer, so I did no more than perform ablution and come straight here."Umar said, "Only ablution as well? You know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command us to perform the full bath."

حدثنا روح حدثنا مالك بن أنس عن ابن شهاب

عن سالم بن عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما عن أبيه

أن رجلا من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ دخل المسجد يوم الجمعة وعمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه قائم يخطب فقال عمر رضي الله عنه أية ساعة هذه فقال يا أمير المؤمنين انقلبت من السوق فسمعت النداء فما زدت على أن توضأت فأقبلت فقال عمر رضي الله عنه الوضوء أيضا وقد علمت أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يأمرنا بالغسل
