The Quraysh went to a soothsayer and said to her, "Tell us which of us most closely resembles the master of this station."She replied, "If you drag a cloak over this soft sand and then walk upon it, I will inform you."So they dragged the cloak, and then the people walked over the sand. She examined the footprints and recognized the trace of Muhammad ﷺ. She said, "This one most closely resembles him."They remained in this state for twenty years, or close to twenty years, or as long as Allah willed, and then he was sent as a prophet ﷺ.
حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا إسرائيل والأسود قال حدثنا إسرائيل عن سماك عن عكرمة
أن قريشا أتوا كاهنة فقالوا لها أخبرينا بأقربنا شبها بصاحب هذا المقام فقالت إن أنتم جررتم كساء على هذه السهلة ثم مشيتم عليها أنبأتكم فجروا ثم مشى الناس عليها فأبصرت أثر محمد ﷺ فقالت هذا أقربكم شبها به فمكثوا بعد ذلك عشرين سنة أو قريبا من عشرين سنة أو ما شاء الله ثم بعث ﷺ
