A man set out at a time when wine was still permitted and brought a large skin of wine as a gift for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, leading it on a camel. When he found the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sitting, the Messenger asked, "What is this you have with you?"The man replied, "A skin of wine, which I have brought as a gift for you."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Do you know that Allah has forbidden it?"The man said, "No."The Messenger said, "Allah has indeed forbidden it."The man then turned to the one leading the camel and said something to him privately. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What did you say to him?"The man answered, "I told him to sell it."The Messenger said, "The One who forbade drinking it has forbidden selling it."So he ordered that the mouths of the waterskin be opened, and the wine poured out onto the ground. I looked at it spreading across the valley, and not a drop of it remained.
Its isnad is sahih. Rubai bin Ibrahim bin Miqsam Asadi was known as Ibn Ulaya, like his brother Ismail. Rubai is trustworthy, one of the teachers of Ahmad. Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 2/1/299.Abdul-Rahman bin Ishaq is the Qurashi, the Madinan, previously mentioned at 1955. The hadith is a repeat of 2041 and 2190.Al-azali is the plural of azlaa, which is the lower opening of the water-skin.
