The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to them while they were sitting in one of their gatherings and said, "Shall I tell you who is the best of people?"They said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "A man who holds his horse by its head in the path of Allah until he dies or is killed. Shall I tell you who comes after him?"We said, "Yes."He said, "A man secluded in a mountain pass who establishes the prayer, gives the zakat, and keeps away from the evils of people. Shall I tell you who is the worst of people in standing?"They said, "Yes."He said, "The one who is asked in the name of Allah but does not give for His sake."
حدثنا عثمان بن عمر قال أخبرنا ابن أبي ذئب عن سعيد بن خالد عن إسماعيل بن عبد الرحمن عن عطاء بن يسار
أن رسول الله ﷺ خرج عليهم وهم جلوس في مجلس لهم فقال ألا أخبركم بخير الناس قالوا بلى يا رسول الله قال رجل آخذ برأس فرسه في سبيل الله حتى يموت أو يقتل أفأخبركم بالذي يليه قال قلنا نعم قال رجل معتزل في شعب يقيم الصلاة ويؤتي الزكاة ويعتزل شرور الناس أفأخبركم بشر الناس منزلا قالوا نعم قال الذي يسأل بالله ولا يعطي به
