A Jewish woman presented a poisoned sheep as a gift to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He sent for her and asked, "What made you do what you did?"She replied, "I wanted to see, if you were truly a prophet, then Allah would inform you about it, and if you were not a prophet, the people would be relieved of you."Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ felt any effect from that poison, he would have himself cupped. Once he traveled, and when he entered the state of ihram he felt something of it, so he had himself cupped.
Its isnad is sahih. Ibn Kathir cited it in Al-Tarikh 4:209 from this very place, and said, "Ahmad alone transmitted it, and its isnad is hasan." It is also found in Majma al-Zawaid 8:295, where it says, "Ahmad narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Hilal bin Khabab, who is trustworthy."
