Abu Dharr al-Ghifari used to serve the Prophet ﷺ, and when he finished his service, he would retreat to the mosque, which served as his home where he slept.One night, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque and found Abu Dharr lying stretched out asleep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ nudged him with his foot until he sat upright, then said to him, "Why do I see you sleeping here?"Abu Dharr replied, "Messenger of Allah, where else should I sleep? Do I have any home besides this?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down beside him and said, "How will you fare when they expel you from it?"He answered, "Then I will go to Syria, for Syria is the land of migration, the land of the gathering, and the land of the prophets. I will become one of its people."He asked, "And how will you fare when they expel you from Syria?"He said, "Then I will return here, and this will be my home and my dwelling."He asked, "And how will you fare when they expel you from it a second time?"He said, "Then I will take up my sword and fight in my own defense until I die."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled at him, broadly enough that his teeth showed, and placed his hand on him, saying, "Shall I guide you to something better than that?"He said, "Of course, may my father and mother be ransomed for you, Prophet of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Submit to them wherever they lead you, and go along with them wherever they drive you, until you meet me while still upon that course."
حدثنا هاشم قال ثنا عبد الحميد قال ثنا شهر قال حدثتني
أن أبا ذر الغفاري كان يخدم النبي ﷺ فإذا فرغ من خدمته آوى إلى المسجد فكان هو بيته يضطجع فيه فدخل رسول الله ﷺ المسجد ليلة فوجد أبا ذر نائما منجدلا في المسجد فنكته رسول الله ﷺ برجله حتى استوى جالسا فقال له رسول الله ﷺ ألا أراك نائما قال أبو ذر يا رسول الله فأين أنام هل لي من بيت غيره فجلس إليه رسول الله ﷺ فقال له كيف أنت إذا أخرجوك منه قال إذن ألحق بالشام فإن الشام أرض الهجرة وأرض المحشر وأرض الأنبياء فأكون رجلا من أهلها قال له كيف أنت إذا أخرجوك من الشام قال إذن أرجع إليه فيكون هو بيتي ومنزلي قال له كيف أنت إذا أخرجوك منه الثانية قال إذن آخذ سيفي فأقاتل عني حتى أموت قال فكشر إليه رسول الله ﷺ فأثبته بيده قال أدلك على خير من ذلك قال بلى بأبي أنت وأمي يا نبي الله قال رسول الله ﷺ تنقاد لهم حيث قادوك وتنساق لهم حيث ساقوك حتى تلقاني وأنت على ذلك
