We arrived in Sham, and Abu Darda came to us and asked, "Is there anyone among you who recites in the manner of Abdullah?"They pointed to me, and I said, "Yes, I do."He asked, "How did you hear Abdullah recite this verse, 'By the night when it covers, and the day when it appears in brightness'?"I replied, "I heard him recite it, 'By the night when it covers, and the day when it appears in brightness, and the male and the female.'"He said, "By Allah, that is exactly how I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite it, but these people want me to recite 'and what He created', and I will not follow them."
حدثنا أبو معاوية حدثنا الأعمش عن إبراهيم
قدمنا إلى الشام فأتانا أبو الدرداء فقال أفيكم أحد يقرأ علي قراءة عبد الله فأشاروا إلي قال قلت نعم أنا فقال كيف سمعت عبد الله يقرأ هذه الآية {والليل إذا يغشى والنهار إذا تجلى} قال قلت سمعته يقرأ {والليل إذا يغشى والنهار إذا تجلى} والذكر والأنثى قال وأنا والله هكذا سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقرؤها وهؤلاء يريدون أن أقرأ وما خلق فلا أتابعهم
