A man from Quraysh broke the tooth of a man from the Ansar, and the Ansari sought help against him from Muawiya.The Qurayshi said, "This man broke my tooth."Muawiya said, "Not at all, we will satisfy him."When the Ansari pressed him, Muawiya said, "Do as you wish with your adversary."Abu Darda was sitting nearby, and he said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There is no Muslim who is struck with an injury to his body and gives it up as charity except that Allah raises him a degree by it and erases a sin from him by it.'"The Ansari said, "Did you yourself hear this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"Abu Darda replied, "Yes, my own ears heard it and my heart retained it."So he pardoned him.

كسر رجل من قريش سن رجل من الأنصار فاستعدى عليه معاوية فقال القرشي إن هذا دق سني قال معاوية كلا إنا سنرضيه قال فلما ألح عليه الأنصاري قال معاوية شأنك بصاحبك وأبو الدرداء جالس فقال أبو الدرداء سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول ما من مسلم يصاب بشيء في جسده فيتصدق به إلا رفعه الله به درجة وحط عنه بها خطيئة قال فقال الأنصاري أأنت سمعت هذا من رسول الله ﷺ قال نعم سمعته أذناي ووعاه قلبي يعني فعفا عنه
