Abu Darda reported,

Whenever a guest came to stay with him, Abu Darda would ask him, "Are you staying, so we may saddle the mount for you, or are you departing, so we may give it fodder?"If the guest replied that he was departing, Abu Darda would say to him, "I cannot find anything better to give you than what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us. We said, 'Messenger of Allah, the wealthy have taken away the reward. They perform Hajj while we cannot, they wage jihad while we cannot, and so on.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Shall I guide you to something which, if you do it, will bring you a reward greater than any of them attain? Say Allahu Akbar thirty-four times, Subhan Allah thirty-three times, and Alhamdulillah thirty-three times after every prayer.'"

حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن الحكم قال سمعت أبا عمر الصيني

عن أبي الدرداء

أنه إذا كان نزل به ضيف قال يقول له أبو الدرداء مقيم فنسرج أو ظاعن فنعلف قال فإن قال له ظاعن قال له ما أجد لك شيئا خيرا من شيء أمرنا به رسول الله ﷺ قلنا يا رسول الله ذهب الأغنياء بالأجر يحجون ولا نحج ويجاهدون ولا نجاهد وكذا وكذا فقال رسول الله ﷺ ألا أدلكم على شيء إن أخذتم به جئتم من أفضل ما يجيء به أحد منهم أن تكبروا الله أربعا وثلاثين وتسبحوه ثلاثا وثلاثين وتحمدوه ثلاثا وثلاثين في دبر كل صلاة
