Damad al-Azdi came to Mecca and saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with boys following him.He said, "Muhammad, I treat people afflicted with madness."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "All praise belongs to Allah. We seek His help and His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own selves. Whoever Allah guides, none can lead astray, and whoever He leads astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger."Damad said, "Repeat these words to me."Then he said, "I have heard the speech of poets, soothsayers, and diviners, but I have never heard anything like these words. They reach the deepest depths of the sea. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger."So he embraced Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him when he accepted Islam, "And on behalf of your people too?"He replied, "Yes, on behalf of myself and my people."Sometime later, an expedition of the Prophet's ﷺ companions passed by his people, and one of them took something from them, a water vessel or something similar. The others said, "This belongs to the people of Damad. Return it." So they returned it.
