I used to suffer severe and heavy bleeding beyond my regular menstrual period, so I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to seek his guidance and inform him of my situation. I found him at the house of my sister Zaynab bint Jahsh.I said, "Messenger of Allah, I have a need to bring before you."He said, "What is it?"I said, "Messenger of Allah, I am experiencing heavy and severe bleeding outside my normal period. What do you advise concerning it? It has prevented me from praying and fasting."He said, "I prescribe for you a piece of cotton, for it will absorb the blood."She said, "It is more than that."He said, "Then use a pad."She said, "The blood gushes out in great quantity."So he said to her, "I will instruct you in two matters. Whichever of the two you do will suffice you in place of the other, and if you are able to do both, you know best.This is only one of the kicks of Satan. Consider yourself menstruating for six or seven days, as Allah knows best, then perform the ritual bath. Once you see that you have become pure and are certain and confident of your purity, pray for twenty-four or twenty-three nights and their days, and fast. That will suffice you. Do this every month, just as women menstruate and become pure at the appointed times of their menstruation and purity.If you are able to delay the Dhuhr prayer and bring forward the Asr prayer, then bathe and pray Dhuhr and Asr together, then delay the Maghrib prayer and bring forward the Isha prayer, then bathe and combine the two prayers, then do so. And bathe at dawn and pray. Do likewise, and pray and fast if you are able to do that."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is the more pleasing of the two options to me."

كنت أستحاض حيضة شديدة كثيرة فجئت رسول الله ﷺ أستفتيه وأخبره فوجدته في بيت أختي زينب بنت جحش قالت فقلت يا رسول الله إن لي إليك حاجة فقال وما هي فقلت يا رسول الله إني أستحاض حيضة كثيرة شديدة فما ترى فيها قد منعتني الصلاة والصيام قال أنعت لك الكرسف فإنه يذهب الدم قالت هو أكثر من ذلك قال فتلجمي قالت إنما أثج ثجا فقال لها سآمرك بأمرين أيهما فعلت فقد أجزأ عنك من الآخر فإن قويت عليهما فأنت أعلم فقال لها إنما هذه ركضة من ركضات الشيطان فتحيضي ستة أيام أو سبعة في علم الله ثم اغتسلي حتى إذا رأيت أنك قد طهرت واستيقنت واستنقأت فصلي أربعا وعشرين ليلة أو ثلاثا وعشرين ليلة وأيامها وصومي فإن ذلك يجزئك وكذلك فافعلي في كل شهر كما تحيض النساء وكما يطهرن بميقات حيضهن وطهرهن وإن قويت على أن تؤخري الظهر وتعجلي العصر فتغتسلين ثم تصلين الظهر والعصر جميعا ثم تؤخرين المغرب وتعجلين العشاء ثم تغتسلين وتجمعين بين الصلاتين فافعلي وتغتسلين مع الفجر وتصلين وكذلك فافعلي وصلي وصومي إن قدرت على ذلك وقال رسول الله ﷺ وهذا أعجب الأمرين إلي
